This course promotes the principles and application of aseptic technique in clinical practice. It aligns with Australian standards in health care including the National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards.
This course is intended for multidisciplinary clinical staff who perform any procedures requiring aseptic technique.
Successful completion of the annual online National Hand Hygiene Initiative for your organisation is a prerequisite for this course.

The course will take approximately one hour to complete.
Aseptic technique theory
Assessments relating to the learning outcomes and content appear throughout the course. Your score and quick access to all the questions are included at the end in the Assessment summary.
You need to successfully complete each assessment to gain a certificate of completion (theory component only) and recognition of 1 hour (1 point) of continuing professional development.
Aseptic technique practical competency
It is recommended that a practical competency assessment occurs after the completion of this online education. This will be at the discretion of individual organisations/Local Health Networks.

On successful completion of the assessments you can download a certificate of completion.
This course adheres to South Australian (SA Health) guidelines and Australian National Standards.
The principles described in the course can however be applied to any health care setting.
If you practice outside South Australia it is your responsibility to refer to the specific requirements of your local health authority.
The course aligns with National Safety and Quality Health Service, second edition – Standards 3 and 6.
The course references the Australian Guidelines for the Prevention and Control of Infection in Healthcare, where aseptic technique is recognised as a component of standard precautions.
The course design reflects the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Healthcare National Model Clinical Framework (consumer centred, driven by information, and organised for safety).
The course complies with the SA Health Prevention and Control of Healthcare Associated Infection Policy.
