What you will learn

Taking approximately 90 minutes, this is the first of two professional supervision courses developed by SA Health, based on the Regional Local Health Network Allied Health Professional Supervision Framework (2023) and the SA Health Allied Health Professional Supervision Framework (2024).

This course provides information on professional supervision key concepts, roles and requirements, and how to build effective supervision relationships.

The goals of professional supervision are to facilitate the personal and professional development of the supervisee and, through this support, the provision of effective, safe, high quality and consumer-centred care.

Supervision works best when there is a clearly defined two-way relationship, underpinned by sound processes and practices that lead to positive growth through reflection and learning. A range of strategies and ideas for strengthening professional supervision will be explored in this course.

Relevance

It is recommended that all SA Health allied health professionals complete this course.

It is recommended that allied health professionals with a primary or delegated supervisor role, or who are ‘supervisors of supervisors’, also complete module 2.

  • describe professional supervision key concepts and core requirements
  • explain the roles and responsibilities of supervisee, primary supervisor and delegated supervisor
