This course is recommended for clinicians new to paediatrics who need an introduction to the process for managing a deteriorating paediatric patient. This needs to be supported by further local training and support.

Learning outcomes

On completion of this module, participants will be able to:

  • describe the unique characteristics of the deteriorating child
  • distinguish between assessment findings in a stable child versus a deteriorating child
  • recognise the deteriorating child and respond appropriately
  • describe appropriate basic management techniques of a deteriorating child.
